Ride Snowboard Design Contest
Project
The ask was to create snowboard designs for the Ride Snowboard design contest. Each applicant could submit up to 3 design entries. After the judging process, the top 10 finalists would be notified. A reception would be held in Seattle, Washington, where the top 25 designs, including the top 7 full-size prints, would be showcased in an art space. The Winning design would be transformed into an actual snowboard for the recipient.
The process involved creating vector art based on sourced internet imagery. I was very selective with the topics and subjects to ensure each design felt unique in its composition and overall connection to the world of snowboarding. The attention to detail in each design invites the viewer to get up close and personal. There’s a level of humor in sophistication, a nod to Alaskan artwork, and a representation of black culture. Elements of hip-hop and pop culture permeate through the designs, adding a unique and diverse touch. Unlike snowboards I’ve seen before, my designs reflect a level of representation I see in myself that I haven’t seen in snowboard design. So, one of my designs was awarded top 7! It was prominently displayed near the entrance of the reception hall, a proud moment for me as a first-time contestant.
When I found out that one of my designs made it to the top 10, and the other 2 made it to the top 25, I was overjoyed. At the time, I was the only contestant to have all 3 design entries placed in the top 25, a moment that filled me with pride and a sense of accomplishment.
The goal was not just to create a snowboard for myself, but to bring representation to an industry often perceived as whitewashed. I wanted to pay homage to those who came before me and to the cultures that inspired me. The fact that my designs were so well received is a testament to the importance of diversity in extreme sports. I am proud to have been a part of this experience.

Ride Snowboard Design Contest - Contest Results
“A special mention goes out to Appolllo Bey out of Irvington, NJ. Appolllo was the only participant with the maximum entries in which all three made it into the top 30, one of them in the top 7 runners up category. Congratulations go out to all of our winners. Thank you to Molly, Appolllo, Drew and MIke for coming out to the reception, it was great to have a few of the artists make an appearance.” - ridesowboards.com
