Treehouse Shakers Virtual Summer Camps

Project

The mission was to craft an impactful illustrative identity system, a potent tool for Treehouse Shakers to showcase its thrilling summertime ventures.

Treehouse Shakers sought an engaging illustrative style that would not only captivate but also nurture the power of imagination. The program, with its diverse workshops, provides a fertile ground for children to cultivate their skills in story-making and storytelling.

So, the style of the illustration for the overall style needed to feel lofty. An inspirational. So the overall angle of the digital pieces was always looking up, always in a way that felt like if you climbed or, you know, looked towards the sky for your goals, and that look was always towards the entrance of the tree house, which represents the company. So the goal was to have the children always look up as if looking to the sky to attain their goals or to think about or ponder things, but always look up to reach their goals.

So, in the process stage, we looked for tree houses where the photography was set up like a hero shot where you’re looking up into the tree, something else? What was the style of the actual tree house itself? Was it large? Was it small, or was it more like a shack? Was it well put together? Was it shabby and felt more childlike, or was it sophisticated because of the nature of the subject matter? Then, we considered the color palette, which we wanted to feel earthy. But lofty, so having sky, blue colors, and things about nature were important. So, the goal was to create a looking field. That was inviting, but it spoke to young actors. Actresses or young actors, and I felt like it was a special place where children could come to perfect their craft.

This initiative was born during the challenging times of COVID, when traditional theaters and gathering spaces were inaccessible. Treehouse Shakers approached me, seeking a visual statement that could revive the magic of theater and craft, and deliver it to children in a digital format. This piece was developed and used online, with a focus on recreating a magical space where children could continue to learn and explore the art and craft of theater and storytelling.

Process

I designed everything that was needed to create this virtual world—from the treehouse to the rope holding the wood boards. I also created textures and patterns to make the environment feel more realistic. Once each element was meticulously poured over the actual designs went together easily. The final deliverables were only two assets but the system can be expanded or updated at any point when the series starts back up.

Thank You.
